Ultrasound examination for detecting fetal anomalies

Ultrasound examination for detecting fetal anomalies

Ultrasound examination performed at 20 weeks of pregnancy offers the possibility to examine the fetus and placenta, determine his/her sizes and lie, measure amniotic fluid level.
At the beginning of the examination head, abdomen and extremities of fetus are measured. Measurements taken are entered to a special table and estimated fetal weight is calculated. During the same examination fetal heart rate is recorded, brain structures, vertebral column, intestines, and other internal organs are examined to exclude birth defects. This examination does not provide a guarantee that fetus will be absolutely healthy. We also make examination of placenta and measure amniotic fluid index. During the examination determination of gender is possible at your request.

How is the examination performed?

Examination is performed by transabdominal approach at 18-22 weeks of gestational age.
